Midlake have revealed “Provider,” a stunning new track from their upcoming LP, Antiphon, out November 5th.
The band has endured a volatile ride over the past few years. Their 2010 album, The Courage of Others, channeled vintage folk-prog to stunning effect, though most critics were puzzled. Their attempts to craft a follow-up were laborious dead-ends, and frontman/chief songwriter Tim Smith left the band last year. Antiphon was written as a more collaborative effort, in an explosive six months.
It’s a bold, colorful leap forward, and “Provider” is an excellent barometer of their even more progressive new direction.
Check out a stream of the track below, along with some upcoming winter tour dates and the Antiphon tracklist.
