Happy Friday everybody. Congrats on making it through a tough work week, but now it’s time to relax, kick your feet up and enjoy a long holiday weekend. For this week’s Full Show Friday selection we’ve got one of the most highly-regarded Jerry Garcia Band shows of all-time. When the JGB played the Hampton Coliseum on November 9, 1991 they were joined by none other than Bruce Hornsby.

Jer always seemed to get a huge kick out of jamming with Hornsby as Bruce always challenged and pushed Garcia. That was true on this night as the JGB and Hornsby tear through a setlist that featured some of the best songs in the band’s repertoire including Run For The Roses, Don’t Let Go, Midnight Moonlight and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. YouTuber LoloYodel has combined two separate fan-shot camera angles with a soundboard soundtrack making for a superb set of videos.

Jerry Garcia Band: 11/09/1991 @ Hampton Coliseum

Steve Kimock was slated to play the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco last night with his current band which includes Andy Hess on bass, keyboardist Bernie Worrell and drummer Wally Ingram. Knowing Kimock’s close relationship with Furthur / Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir it wasn’t a stretch to think the jorts-loving Weir would show, especially since Steve took part in Bobby’s Weir Here talk show at TRI Studios on Wednesday night. Not only did Bobby show up, but he brought his new comrades Leslie Mendelson and Jason Crosby with him. As if that wasn’t enough, Worrell’s former Talking Heads band mate Jerry Harrison sat in on a tune during the first set.

The guest-laden show featured multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby throughout. Harrison emerged during the first set for a cover of Al Green’s Take Me To The River, which was a staple of Talking Heads’ live shows. Weir and Mendelson came out at the start of the second set to join Crosby, Kimock, Worrell, Ingram and Hess. During the second set Leslie sang To Love Somebody, Weir led the ensemble through Willie Dixon’s Little Red Rooster and Grateful Dead staples New Speedway Boogie and I Know You Rider, while Worrell sang a rendition of Burning Down The House. Weir, Mendelson and Crosby stuck around for an encore of a song that has made Bobby’s rotation as of late – a cover of Delbert McClinton’s Standing On Shaky Ground. Here’s a video of Little Red Rooster from last night…

Watch Proud Papa Phil Lesh Perform With His Sons

It’s important to remember that our rock heroes are real people who go through all of the same emotions that we do. For instance, they beam with pride at the accomplishments of their children. Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh has used his new venue, Terrapin Crossroads, to not only play with his variety of projects, but also as a home for the projects of his two talented songs – Grahame and Brian.

Watch as Phil can’t wipe the smile off his face as he performs a cover of Kenny Chesney’s You and Tequila last night at Terrapin Crossroads with his two boys and their band. Chesney recorded You and Tequila in 2010 with the help of Grace Potter. Phil has mentioned his appreciation of contemporary country stars such as Chesney in a recent Relix interview. This take on You and Tequila, which sweetly segues into Uncle John’s Band, is delivered by the Terrapin Family Band…

And here’s the ensemble’s riveting take on New Speedway Boogie…

Earlier this month we told you that Paul McCartney announced the framework of a massive world tour dubbed “Out There!” While Macca didn’t reveal many dates, he did mention he would “travel the world throughout the year.” The legendary performer also said the tour would hit many cities he’s never played before. Paul’s headlining set at Bonnaroo is the only U.S. date announced thus far, but recently the Boston Globe confirmed that McCartney is bringing his band back to Boston.

Paul McCartney will return to Boston’s iconic Fenway Park on Tuesday, July 9th. McCartney made his Fenway debut in 2009, when he played two shows at the home of the Red Sox. An official announcement is forthcoming and will include ticketing details. It’s nice to know the Boston faithful are guaranteed at least one night that will be full of big hits at Fenway this summer.

Last weekend Kyle Hollingsworth and the Kyle Hollingsworth Band featuring Keith Moseley played a series of three shows in Colorado. When the String Cheese Incident keyboardist and bassist and the rest of the KHB were in the middle of the Then There’s Now outtake Let’s Go Outside during one of these shows, they segued the improv into a two-minute segment of Justin Timberlake’s Suit & Tie.

Justin Timberlake released Suit & Tie as the b-side of his Mirrors single and on his recently released third studio album – The 20/20 Experience. Hollingsworth just posted audio of the Suit & Tie jam on his SoundCloud page, noting “Ok Ok- this is more of a tease of the JT tune. We jammed it out of Lets Go Outside. I almost got all the notes…. Man that guy can sing.” Let’s take a listen…

One week ago today Umphrey’s McGee wrapped out the western portion of their never-ending tour with a headlining set at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Phoenix, Arizona. The band was joined by jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan for a two-song encore that included UM original Glory and a cover of Making Flippy Floppy by Talking Heads.

We just came across video of this beautiful version of Glory, which features Cinninger and then Jordan taking two completely different approaches to their solos. Unfortunately it cuts about 40 seconds before the song ended, but it’s still worth taking a look…

A Steely Dan Ticket Costs More Than Fine Colombian

$

Earlier this month we came across a pair of Steely Dan tour dates near Chicago that we figured were just the first of many shows the jazz-rock band will play this summer. Today, another date has surfaced, as the bayside San Diego venue Humprey’s By The Bay has announced its 2013 lineup, which finds Steely Dan performing there on August 21st.

NBC’s SoundDiego website lists all shows and ticket prices for the season and we were surprised to see Steely Dan tops the list of ticket prices by a whopping $45. Steely Dan fans will have to pay $155 face ($169.50 with fees) to see the band play at Humphrey’s By The Bay. For comparison’s sake, tickets to see Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys AND Alejandro Escovedo are only $55 a piece, while tickets to see legendary performer Willie Nelson run $88. Jazz pianist Diane Krall, who will play the venue on September 20th, is the only show on the lineup for which tickets are over $100 (tickets to see Krall’s Glad Rag Doll show cost $110).

Steely Dan famously sang about making “tonight a wonderful thing” in their 1980 hit Hey Nineteen by enjoying “the Cuervo Gold” and the “fine Colombian.” If you pair those two things with a Steely Dan concert in San Diego, you’re looking at a $300+ night as Huffington Post puts the street price of a gram of cocaine in the U.S. at $120, while you can buy a liter of Cuervo Gold for $15.98. Bear in mind Humphrey’s By The Bay is an intimate venue with a capacity of 1,450, but it isn’t often a ticket to a Steely Dan show costs more than the “fine Colombian,” though some say the Dan were singing about weed not coke.

Rolling Stones Poised To Announce World Tour on Wednesday – What We Know About What The Band Will Reveal

$

It’s no secret that The Rolling Stones are gearing up for a world tour. The band can’t make a move without a news outlet reporting on it, so the whole world knew the Stones had signed a pact with AEG Live to promote a series of upcoming shows shortly after they did so. The question then turned to where and when the Stones will perform and it looks like we’ll get our answer on Wednesday.

This past Friday The Rolling Stones updated their official website and social media outlets with postings stating “5 Days & Counting.” Yesterday, the same outlets sported images and notifications with “4 Days & Counting.” While math isn’t our thing it appears the band is counting down to Wednesday.

The Stones are using the hashtag “#StartMeUpWednesday” to promote the major announcement that seems to be coming on Wednesday and haven’t just stuck to the virtual world for this guerrilla marketing campaign. They’ve also paid for billboards and screens in Chicago and San Francisco to display the band’s iconic tongue logo and phrases from their songs that intimate an announcement is coming on Wednesday.

UPDATE: “Satisfaction” and teaser billboards showed up in Los Angeles… [video]

[via The Rolling Stones Facebook]

So what do we know about what the band will announce three days from now? Well, both Rolling Stone and Showbiz 411 agree that the tour will include 18 North American dates. The Stones’ official Facebook page and the @GRRRegory Twitter account both posted photos from the group’s famed Hyde Park concert in London that took place in 1969, which gives strength to the long-running rumor that Mick Jagger and Co. will perform there again this year. Furthermore, News.Com.AU reports that Wednesday’s announcement will include Australian dates. Also, if we presume that cities hosting billboards with ads for the tour announcement with host shows, the Stones will visit Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago as part of the tour. Finally, Rob Rossi, a writer for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, tweeted his belief that The Rolling Stones will play Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center.

Video: The Staves – Facing West

$

In my SXSW preview one of the bands that I was hoping to catch in Austin was the London-based sister-act The Staves. The trio, who I didn’t get to check out, are looking to build on the trend of folkie British exports that have captured the attention of music fans in the states. The Staves, who plays an enchanting brand of wispy folk highlighted by their gorgeous three-part harmonies, got some heavyweight help from behind the boards for the their album Dead & Born & Grown.

The twelve-track effort was produced by the formidable father-son duo of Glyn and Ethan Johns, whose resumes read like a who’s who of the history of rock – with Glyn working with the likes of The Beatles, The Band and Bob Dylan, while Ethan worked with the likes of Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne and Laura Marling. This is the first time the duo have ever worked together on a record.

The trio’s album recently got its U.S. release via Atlantic Records, and have marked the occasion with a music video for the track Facing West. Let’s check it out…

The Staves will cross the pond for a 24-date tour that kicks off in Philadelphia on May 15.

Faux The Archives Vol. 4 – A Phish Compilation

$

One of my favorite parts of Phish festivals are the From The Archives shows broadcast over each event’s radio station that feature amazing segments from the band’s archive. These programs, hosted by Phish archivist Kevin Shapiro, have been a staple of the group’s festivals since Clifford Ball. Last summer, I decided to put together a compilation of tracks I’d choose if I ever got to host an episode of From The Archives. I shared these choices with our pal KernelForbin who downloaded the segments from the Phish Spreadsheet and lovingly remastered them for the first installment of a series we’ve dubbed “Faux The Archives.” Today, we present Faux The Archives Volume 4.

[Graphic by Brian Levine]

We’ll debut Faux The Archives – Volume 4 in ThePhish room on Turntable.FM starting at 2PM ET this afternoon. Once we’ve finished running through the tracks, a download link will be posted here.

Our fourth installment kicks off with one of only two versions of Letter to Jimmy Page that wasn’t delivered in the middle of Alumni Blues. This second set opener from Jones Beach ’94 leads into a great David Bowie, complete with Jessica (Allman Bros.) jam. Next up we bring you the Phish debut of Sweet Virginia (Rolling Stones) from the band’s most recent show in New Orleans. Now that we’re warmed up we’ll dive into a twisted Down With Disease from Japan ’00 that approaches the 25-minute mark and a gorgeous, Type-II heavy Tweezer from Dayton ’95 that slyly segues into Makisupa Policeman. A What’s The Use? that was played as the sun set behind Great Woods in 1999 gives us a breather before we jump back in to an outstanding take on You Enjoy Myself from St. Louis ’93. Dude of Life helps out on a most interesting Mike’s Song from the quartet’s final show at The Front that leads into an I Am Hydrogen which finds Page McConnell utilizing a cheap Casio synth. The Mike’s Groove finishes with a highly underrated Weekapaug from Kansas City ’95. Finally, we end the compilation with the first and only Phish version of Rhinoceros by Smashing Pumpkins.

07/15/94 – Letter to Jimmy Page > David Bowie (19:36)
09/26/99 – Sweet Virginia (04:30)
06/10/00 – Down With Disease (24:13)
11/30/95 – Tweezer -> Makisupa Policeman (26:29)
07/12/99 – What’s The Use? (08:41)
04/14/93 – You Enjoy Myself -> Spooky Jam > You Enjoy Myself (24:53)
05/12/91 – Mike’s Song > I Am Hydrogen (09:03)
10/19/95 – Weekapaug Groove (13:11)

Seattle rockers Pearl Jam returned to the stage for the first time in 2013 last night at the Jockey Club in Sao Paolo, Brazil as one of the headliners of Lollapalooza Brasil.
